Press release from the Arctic Winter Games
The Whitehorse 2020 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) welcomed its first major sponsor from the mining sector Monday, with BMC Minerals jumping on board at the Bronze level.
BMC will provide $25,000 towards the Games. Executive Director and CEO, Scott Donaldson, made the announcement during Yukon Night at the annual AME Roundup mining conference in Vancouver.
The sponsorship of AWG 2020 is part of BMC’s commitment to a long-term presence in the Yukon.
“The Arctic Winter Games are a cultural and sporting event unlike any other,” said Donaldson. “They bring the North closer together and celebrate the spirit and resiliency that is at the core of all northerners. BMC is very proud to support the 2020 games and we wish all of the athletes, coaches, officials, and artists the very best of luck”.
“We’re very pleased to secure BMC Minerals as a partner on the Whitehorse 2020 Arctic Winter Games,” said George Arcand, President of the 2020 AWG Host Society. “As we reach the final stages of planning for the Games, this contribution will go a long way towards ensuring their success. It’s great to see BMC’s support for youth opportunities and growth in the territory.”
Whitehorse will host the 2020 Arctic Winter Games March 15 to 21, with nearly 2,000 athletes, coaches, mission staff, officials and cultural performers from nine contingents participating.
